The evacuation order for residents in the region of 100 Mile House, British Columbia, affected by large forest fires, was lifted Saturday by the provincial authorities.

Although residents are now allowed to return to their homes, the air quality remains poor in the region.

Permission to return to their home affected residents of the areas of Princeton, in the south Okanagan, and north of Williams Lake in the Cariboo region, told CBC News.

Nearly 43,000 people were evacuated in the province.

Several ministers were in Kamloops Saturday afternoon to meet with the provincial authorities and the communities affected by the fires. The public Safety minister, Ralph Goodale, and the minister of Defence, Harjit Sajjan, were particularly on-site.
