The authorities should install cameras on school buses to ensure that drivers adhere to the flashing lights for the safety of children?
The ministry of Transport will implement this measure in the framework of a pilot project in several regions of Quebec, and from the 12 march for a 45-day period.
The principle is to install cameras outside of the vehicles, filming, and motorists who do not comply with the requirement to stop when the lights are on.
A bit like a photo radar, drivers offenders could receive a fine by post to the result of the offence.
But for the time being, the goal of the pilot project is not to put to fine offenders.
The project foresees rather the collection of data on the number of exceedances and crossings by illegal school bus by the drivers of road vehicles using cameras installed on the external walls of these vehicles.
For Jean Souliere, president and general manager of Bus Patrol, responsible for the implementation of the pilot project, hit directly in the wallet of motorists will have consequences in the change of attitude.
