OTTAWA – two weeks before the start of the olympic Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea, Canada Post has decided to pay tribute to six women athletes for a new series of stamps.

The Canadian honorees are all marked by their excellence in winter sports. Among them was the hockey player in quebec Danielle Goyette, triple olympic medallist and eight-time gold medallist at the world Championship of hockey.

The speed-skater and cyclist Clara Hughes is also part of the group. It is the only canadian athlete to have won medals at the olympic Games winter and summer.

The other four athletes are the casting machines Sharon and Shirley Firth, who have won 79 medals in the world Championship from the late 1960s to the mid-1980s, the curleuse Sonja Gaudet, triple gold medallist at the paralympic Games, and the skier Nancy Greene, who won 13 world Cup victories.

“The contribution of the women featured on these postage stamps for the Canada exceed the medals won and records smashed. These are builders and visionaries who support the cause of accessibility “, said the minister of public Services, Carl Qualtrough, by issuing a press release.
