MONTREAL – The mayor of Montréal mentioned that Gilbert Rozon has done well to resign from his positions of chairman of the Just for Laughs Group and commissioner for the celebrations of the 375th anniversary following allegations of sexual assault.

“The important thing for me, It is zero tolerance”, reiterated the mayor in a press briefing on Thursday morning, as he had indicated on his Twitter account the day before.

“It is quite shocking, he added. I was not expecting this, honestly.”

Even though he stressed that it is the allegations, the mayor has encouraged possible victims to not hesitate to go ahead and make a complaint to the police.

“It is behind the victims. We will ensure that these victims have the ability to speak”, he said.

The Montreal police has opened an investigation following a complaint of sexual assault filed Wednesday afternoon against the producer Gilbert Rozon on events that would have occurred in Paris, in 1994.

The complainant is part of a group of ten women who had gathered Tuesday in Montreal to discuss gestures which they would have been victims of the hand of the founder of Just for laughs.

Wednesday morning, the host Penelope McQuade, actress, Salome Corbo and filmmaker Lyne Charlebois mentioned having been victims of Gilbert Rozon.
