The intensity of dangerous meteorological phenomena in 2018 will increase, while weather is expected unstable, said the head of the climate programme of the world wildlife Fund (WWF) of Russia Alexey Kokorin, reports Rus.Media.

“The intensity of dangerous meteorological phenomena will increase. We need to be ready for it, it is a natural process. The intensity of anomalous phenomena is growing is a fact, and this will continue. Will increase their number depends on the method of calculation,” – said Kokorin.

According to him, the increase of the intensity of dangerous phenomena not turn into some kind of crash, but will cause more damage. In this regard, it is important to be prepared for such phenomena.

The total number of hydro-meteorological phenomena will remain approximately at the same level: 550-600. “Statistics about dangerous hydrometeorological phenomena counts phenomena that caused damage. It strongly depends on when the phenomenon occurred at night or in the middle of the day, failed to prepare or failed,” explained climatologist.

“But it did not happen due to the fact that the climate was better. The fact that it seems that we have learnt to prepare for it. Or we had more events in the time when they inflicted the least damage: heat wave in July and a heat wave in December, bring a completely different loss,” – said the expert.

Turning to the trends of climate change in the coming year, he noted that the trends observed in recent years will continue and a little stronger.

“This means that the weather is again unstable: two or three weeks, is abnormally warm, then the same abnormally cold. Maybe a month of abnormally cold, then warm. The temperature balance may not necessarily be a zero – energy conservation law is true only for the planet as a whole and not for a specific location”, – concluded the representative of WWF.
