This time, researchers have seen great. Many studies have already shown the specific benefits of regular coffee consumption on several diseases, for example, on the prevention of colorectal cancers. This time, European and American experts have not sorted the grains : they have studied its effect on the general mortality of large cohorts bringing together more than 700 000 people.

And their results, published in two articles in the journal Annals of internal medicine, will delight fans. The first, conducted by researchers at the international agency for research on cancer (IARC) and the Imperial college of London (Uk) gathered data from 520,000 people from 10 european countries over 16 years.

Three cups per day

On the entire cohort and time of follow-up, more than 40,000 people have died. By studying the coffee consumption, the researchers observed that the number of deaths among men drinking at least three cups per day was less than 18 %, compared to abstainers. It is less for women, with a gain of only 8 %.

The gain is the most clear at the level of the mortality due to digestive cancers. In women, it is substantial, with a decrease of 40 %, so that it is more than divided by two for men (-65 %). For diseases of the liver, it is even more dramatic : the mortality rate is divided by 5 (- 80 %) !

The researchers also noted a decrease in the cardiovascular diseases, especially among women. Ditto for the suicide.

The deca also

The second study, conducted in the United States about 185 000 people from 45 to 75 years, confirms these results. Mortality early people drinking at least one cup of coffee per day is lower than 12 % and even 18 % from three cups. Diseases of cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, cancers and diabetes are part of the pathologies which are losing ground among addicts.

And, good news for the more nervous : in both studies, the results are also valid for the decaffeinated coffee.
