MONTREAL – The Quebec Bar association is calling for investment of at least $ 400 million from the Quebec government for computerising the justice system of Quebec, “the poor relative in the essential services”.
“Archaic, outdated, slow, frozen in time, shed at the papers. These words should not be associated with justice in Quebec”, stated the president of the bar of Quebec, Paul-Matthieu Grondin, by issuing a press release.
“We must reverse the trend and increase funding if we want to promote better access to justice for quebecers,” he added.
In addition to the computerisation of the system of Justice, the Bar association also requests funds to renovate and expand the courthouse, several of which are “in an unsafe condition and have not been maintained for years”. The cost of this measure is estimated by the professional order to 212 million.
Failure
According to the Coalition avenir Québec, the grievances expressed by the Barreau du Québec, “demonstrate that the liberals have failed to effectively manage the justice system after 15 years in power”.
“It is deplorable to have to plead, by 2018, for a modern and digital,” commented the spokesperson of the CAQ in the field of justice, Simon Jolin-Barrette.
“Even today, many citizens are reluctant to enforce their rights in light of the significant delays”, he added.
