The coroner charged with investigating the horrific death of a Montreal attacked by a dog last year is not able to determine if the animal is a pitbull.

“Despite the results of the DNA analysis of the dog, it is unable, on the basis of the photos of the dog provided, to formally identify this dog as a “pitbull”,” says the report on the death of Christiane Vadnais, made public this morning.

“We note that at the origin, where the dog was registered to the City of Anjou in 2011, the owner has registered as a “boxer”,” the report says.

In the document, the coroner made several recommendations to improve the draft law 128 aimed at regulating dangerous dogs. He wants including the creation of the registre québécois des dogs who have committed injuries, an incentive to sterilize all the dogs, “regardless of race” and the registration with the municipalities of all the dogs.

The report indicates it is the attack of the dog that claimed the life of Chris Vadnais.

The resident of Pointe-aux-Trembles was in her garden when she was attacked by the animal belonging to the son of the neighbor of Ms. Vadnais, Franklin Junior Front-end. The latter has not been criminally charged but is the subject of a civil lawsuit brought by the family of the victim.

The death of Mrs. Vadnais had reignited the debate about dangerous dogs. Montreal had issued shortly after a regulation including a ban on new pit bull type dogs. This regulation is challenged in court is currently suspended.

In the coroner’s report, it is confirmed that the dog is introduced to the victim through a hole in the fence before taking the woman to 55 years.

Ms. Vadnais has suffered a trauma, and bleeding important. The report concludes that it is a “death-violent”.
