Certainly, the enlargement of the vaccination requirement has trouble moving. The protests have been multiplying since the announcement was made by the minister of Health, Agnes Buzyn, at the beginning of July. On September 9, the movement Together for a vaccination free has even planned a protest against such a measure.

Among the voices of this criticism, the mep Michèle Rivasi is very active. “I’m not against vaccination, in the event of an outbreak, it is necessary to vaccinate. But why would you want to force… “, he asks, does it have on Twitter. This is a view shared by many of the people expressing doubts on the interest of the vaccine.

Towards eradication of polio

But the mp ecologist forget a component : it is precisely to prevent outbreaks that are immunized broadly to the population. The recent evolution confirms this. In many countries, the decline in immunization coverage has resulted in the resurgence of infectious diseases. Epidemics of measles broke out in Italy and Romania ; and other european States have had to fight local outbreaks.

The situation of the United States is hardly more enviable ; so that the country had eradicated measles in its territory, the disease is back by epidemics successive, on the background of the questioning. As to diphtheria, and tetanus, which had virtually disappeared from Europe, they have recently killed some of the children who are not vaccinated.

The vaccination, however, has been proven to work. It is thanks to it that smallpox has been eradicated from the planet as a whole. And the world is on track for the same success against polio. It has declined dramatically, with only 37 cases reported in 2016. Now, the virus is endemic in only three countries : Pakistan, Nigeria and Afghanistan.

Millions of lives saved

According to the World health Organization (WHO), 2 to 3 million lives have been saved every year thanks to the different injected products. 1.5 million additional deaths could be prevented by improving the immunization coverage.

It must be said that the mortality associated with some diseases that can be prevented by vaccination may be very high. Tetanus, for example, is caused by a bacterium ubiquitous in the environment. The infection is associated with a mortality of 30 %.

Look to the past book on the subject of informative replies on the impact of the gesture vaccine. Before 1950, France counted each year about 30 cases of tetanus per million population. Now, twenty cases occur annually in the whole population. The majority of them could be avoided thanks to the reminders in adulthood.
