The Quebec liberal Party decided on Friday that Julie Boulet would be the liberal candidate for the riding merged Laviolette, Saint–Maurice, in Mauricie.
The LIBERALS said to have been forced to take this decision, the Commission de la représentation électorale (CRE) has decided to merge the electoral district of Laviolette with that of St. Maurice, which belongs to the member of parliament Pierre Giguère.
In its press release, the party has not explained why it had not nominated its candidate at the end of a race for the nomination.
“This exceptional situation requires the QLP to make a difficult choice in the coming general elections”, said Friday the party leader, Philippe Couillard.
“I would like to acknowledge the work of Pierre Giguère and Julie Boulet, the two members of the field who have always advocated and focused on the priorities and concerns of the citizens of their constituency”, he added.
Julie Boulet is currently the minister of Tourism and minister of the Mauricie region, in the government Couillard.
