E. coli bacteria: boil-Longueuil, Boucherville and Saint-Bruno

    A boil order has been issued Wednesday for the municipalities of Longueuil (borough of Saint-Hubert and Vieux-Longueuil), Boucherville and Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville due to contamination by the bacterium E. coli.

    Citizens should boil their water for one minute before consuming it or use bottled water.

    “We can use the tap water not boiled for washing dishes with hot water, making sure it is dry; wash clothes, and take a shower or a bath,” said the municipality of Boucherville, in a press release.

    The bacterium E. coli can cause vomiting and stomach aches.

    You should boil water for:

    – Drinking and preparing beverages;

    – Prepare bottles and food for babies;

    – Washing and preparing food eaten raw (fruit, vegetables, etc);

    – Prepare foods that do not require prolonged cooking (canned soups, desserts, etc);

    – Manufacture of ice;

    – Brush teeth and rinse mouth;

    – Watering the pets.

    You can use tap water for :

    – Preparing food and dishes in which the cooking requires prolonged boiling;

    – Wash dishes in hot water with detergent, making sure to dry;

    – Run the dishwasher, if it is set to the cycle the more hot;

    – Wash clothes and take a shower or a bath. In regards to the young children, make sure they do not swallow no water while bathing or wash them with a washcloth.
