The bet was far from being won for Ed Sheeran, and yet … Almost three years after the release of the album x which met with phenomenal success around the world, the British singer returns this Friday 3 March to deliver a New project straight out of the studio: ÷ (pronounce Divide ). Ed Sheeran had no doubt the pressure – as did Katy Perry, who unveiled several excerpts from her next album – to reiterate the fact that she was the only one who had been honored by the Queen of England. The infatuation that its previous tubes “Thinking Out Loud” , “Sing” , ” The success could easily have mounted to the head but Ed Sheeran seems to have kept well feet on Earth. With Divide, the singer delivers more than ever on his emotions and has even found ways to surprise the whole world . Our critic is right away! First track, “Eraser” , first slap of the album. No, it’s not Eminem who picks up on an acoustic guitar riff, but Ed Sheeran is trying out a new genre on an impeccable production by Johnny McDaid (Snow Patrol, Example, Harry Styles). We think we hear the ghosts of the Backstreet Boys in the chorus and it is far from displeasing us. The tone is given! It continues very quickly with the tubes already known “Castle on the Hill” and “Shape Of You” that no longer presents. The third piece, “Dive” , attracts our attention. It ‘s hard not to melt away, Listening to this languorous ballad which gives very desire to fall in love . This time we have to thank Benny Blanco (Katy Perry, Maroon 5, Rihanna …) to the production and Julia Michaels (Britney Spears, Selena Gomez, Hailee Steinfeld …) artist. Speaking of low-tempo, we love “Perfect” , “New Man” , “How Would You Feel (Paean)” and especially “Supermarket Flowers” which prove that Ed Sheeran has the gift of composing sad songs and very often Overwhelming. Inside, he delivers his emotions without filter, with open heart. ) To production and Julia Michaels (Britney Spears, Selena Gomez, Hailee Steinfeld …) to writing for getting the best of the artist. In addition to these many ballads, we find Ed Sheeran in several very radio-friendly up-tempo, in a sort of acoustic pop, which should convince the less savvy as with for example “Galway Girl” who flirts with Irish music on a background modern pop, “Hearts Do not Break Around Here” , “What Do I Know” without counting the very surprising bonus “Barcelona” , “Bibia Be Ye Ye” very exotic “Nancy Mulligan” . We feel that the artist was pleased towards the end of the album! What can be retained from Divide , Ed Sheeran seems more confident than ever and succeeds in proposing something new while keeping his DNA. He tests, experiences, both with his voice and in the instrumental parts . The big heady choruses should ensure several hits to his interpreter and other important point: the tracks of the album seem to have been thought for the live. We can already imagine the crowds in ecstasy taking back these new songs before their idol. Unsurprisingly , with ÷ , Ed Sheeran became the male popstar par excellence in 2017 and he has nothing to prove after this real success . Find it our playlist of the week to get motivated !
