Editor in chief “Stranie” asked for political asylum in Austria : In the World : Vladim
Ilya Guzhva, who is the chief editor of the Ukrainian edition “Strenia” he left the Ukraine to Austria and asked for political asylum. In the appeal to the President Peter Poroshenko, the journalist explained his action by the “pressure from the authorities”.
Ilya Guzhva, which is the main resource editor “Strenia” left the territory of Ukraine, and Austria filed a request to grant him political asylum. This was announced by the editorial Board in an official address to the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko.
On 22 June last year Guzhva was detained in the capital of Ukraine in connection with the alleged extortion for withholding compromising information about one of the existing politicians. The journalist called organized against him the paperwork provocation. After posting bail in the amount of 544 thousand UAH (21 thousand USD) 26 Jun Guzhva was able to be released.
According to the journalist, publishing “Strenia” for the past two years felt the increased attention from law-enforcement authorities. This has forced Guzhva to leave Ukraine, when he expired measure established by court decision.
