MONTREAL | Various environmental groups have expressed their fears to the idea that the consultations led by the ministry of Transport (MTQ) on Wednesday on the development of a “green band” in the Turcot interchange will lead to nothing.
This “green band” would be composed of a circuit linear four kilometres long by 30 metres wide, located at the foot of the falaise Saint-Jacques. The circuit should include a cycle track and a track pedestrian.
The MTQ was to meet Wednesday, the environmental groups to discuss the case. “There is a rumour according to which these hearings are conducted only to justify the removal of the last piece of greenery in the project Turcot. I sincerely hope that this is not the case”, said a representative of the organization Save the cliff, Lisa Mintz, in a press release.
“It is very important to ensure that the last part of the green infrastructure of the project Turcot is conducted and constructed in order to be a useful element of the project. Ideally, this green line would connect Westmount to Ville-Saint-Pierre, with the slab-park at the centre,” added Ms. Mintz.
The different militant groups reiterated that the project of plate-fleet, which was to pass over the rail line and highway 20, has been practically abandoned by the MTQ. First promised in the framework of the reconstruction of the interchange, the project has since been put aside, although space is reserved for potential construction of an elevated green space.
