Facebook is going to make it more visible to the local information on the news feed of its users, first in the United States and in other countries, a new variation of its actions intended to limit the misinformation and divisions within the company.
“Local information, helping to create a community, on the internet, as in life,” writes the boss of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg on his page on Monday, trying once again to respond to the criticisms that have rained down on the network.
They contribute “to ensure that the time we spend on Facebook is quality time,” adds the young billionaire, who promised in the beginning of the year a series of measures to limit the spread of misinformation and to improve the content of what circulates on the network claiming two billion users.
“From today, we’ll show you more publications from media located in your city, small or large,” says the boss of the network, which adds that the change occurs first in the United States, before being extended to “more countries this year”.
Since the beginning of the year, Facebook has already announced that he would give priority to the publications of friends and relatives of users to the detriment of more sources institutional (media, brands…) and then it would ask for users to help classify the sources of information by degree of “reliability”, an initiative that has generated some skepticism, some feeling that it could prove counter-productive.
Criticism rages for more than a year on the social networks, especially Facebook, accused of having left swarming the misinformation–especially during the american presidential campaign of 2016– to be dangerous to the democracy or to maintain an addiction décérébrante to social networks.
The group now communicates very frequently to show his intention to respond to these criticisms.
