A couple had no other choice than to lie on their children to protect them when their home in the british virgin islands was razed to the ground by the powerful winds of the hurricane Irma.

This is the mother of two young boys of two and four years, Sasha Joyce, told the newspaper The Daily Mail.

She, her husband, her father and the boys are all refugees back to their homes while the hurricane devastated the island of Tortola in the archipelago of the british virgin islands on Wednesday.

When they walked out of the room where they were hidden, it was the only piece still standing in the house, told the cousin of Mrs. Joyce, Clare Parker.

“When they are out, the eye of the hurricane had completely destroyed the house in concrete”, he told.

“They are all alive, which is a miracle. They feel lucky to be alive”, he added.

The cousin of Sasha has told that his parents were residing in the british virgin islands for over 50 years and that they had already lived through many hurricanes.

But they realized that Irma was not like the others and have taken extra precautions this time.
