Hockey Quebec and the ministry of Education address the parents with problematic behaviors in arenas of the province by establishing a guide of the initiatives of best practices.

The initiative stems from a desire of the ministry of Education, Recreation and Sports, to put an end to aggressive behaviour or inappropriate in the stands of hockey arenas in quebec. Hockey Quebec has therefore been mandated by the government to identify the various initiatives that already exist across the province.

“As a first step, Hockey Québec will consult with all of its minor hockey associations of (AHM) in order to collect best practices that they use with parents. These best practices are actions or initiatives to bring the parent to simply play his role, ” explains the president of Hockey Quebec, Paul Menard, stating that this role is, above all, be a positive role model for the child.

Once these regional initiatives identified, the Federation will select those it considers to be more structural and will submit to the government. A “best practices guide” will be subsequently produced by Quebec, that the decline in various forms, including advertising posters and leaflets.

“The guides will be returned in the regional associations for distribution to parents, in arenas,” added Mr. Ménard, having good hope to see this initiative to remind parents that they are responsible for their behavior. “The aim is that they encourage our players and our players in a climate of healthy and respectful. “

    Work to do

After the media coverage of many horror stories involving parents aggressive in arenas in recent years, Hockey Québec considers that it was time to act. The practice guide is somehow the first stone of a work which had to be done.

“We remember often our members that our players are first and foremost children and that they practice this sport for fun,” says the president of Hockey Québec

In total, more than 10 000 booklets should be published and distributed and 500 posters will be printed according to the agreement between the government and the Federation. Quebec has a budget of $ 35, 000 to this initiative.
