Canadian consumers plan to spend an average 1507 $ for the Holiday season, according to a study of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), unveiled Thursday.

Compared to last year, eight in 10 consumers expect to spend the same amount or even more for the Holidays.

The bulk of the spending will go on gifts and travel, while a small proportion will be devoted to entertainment.

“Canadians are optimistic about the economic outlook and will maintain their consumption habits,” pointed out Sonia Boisvert, partner and national leader, retail and consumer products at PwC Canada.

The Holiday shopping will be done in stores (62 %) and the rest will happen on the internet.

“For online purchases, Amazon is the big favourite: in fact, 77 % of Canadians plan to use the digital platform of the retailer,” notes the study.

Nearly half of consumers (46 %) will buy gifts physical, such as clothing, toys, electronic devices, or of alcohol, while 42 % of other people would like to receive gift cards.

Canadians are divided on the changes that will take the purchase price: the half of them believe that the products will increase, 40 % believe they will remain the same and 6 % expect a decrease.
