Holiday turning into a nightmare

    A great-grandfather was close to death after having been the victim of a serious boating accident in the Caribbean last week. The other three members of her family were also injured during the collision. The nightmare continued in two hospitals, where the man has to wait nearly 35 hours.

    The family of Quebec took part in the night-time tour of a bioluminescent bay off the coast of Lajas, Puerto Rico, when the boat in which it took place, came into collision with a pleasure boat with a motor.

    The accident, which occurred last Tuesday has left 22 injured, three of them seriously. The family McCann is not spared.

    “We got hit by a speed boat that was coming up at full speed. […] Two of the propellers had lacerated the skin of my daughter, the skull of my father, and the roof of our boat, which has collapsed on us, ” said Julie McCann.

    Open Fractures

    Ms. McCann recounts to have suffered minor injuries, while her daughter, 17-year-old has suffered lacerations to the back and arms, and his step-mother had an arm dislocated and a concussion. His 10 year old son and his spouse, who were also present, and come out miraculously without injury.

    But it is the state of health of his father, Claude McCann, who worried the most. The man 63-year-old has undergone five open fractures to the skull and multiple lacerations.

    35 hours of waiting

    Julie McCann is highly critical of the local authorities so that her father would have been waiting for nearly 35 hours in two hospitals and a medical helicopter before a doctor examines his injuries.

    The grand-father and three other members were injured.
