Honor 6A: Design, photo, autonomy … Complete test of the entry level smartphone!

Techno 20 July, 2017

We spent a week with Honor 6A, a new entry-level smartphone from Honor. The time has come to take stock of its design and its functionalities.

Exactly a week ago, Honor organized a breakfast in Paris to announce the Honor 6A. Jimmy Hu (director Honor France) and Yan Liu (sales manager) highlighted the qualities of the entry-level smartphone, and gave us a copy to test it. Since then, we have had the opportunity to spend time with him and to tame him … The time has therefore come to draw up a balance sheet, taking care to explain his defects as well as his qualities. As far as the design is concerned, we were rather seduced. The Honor 6A has a metal back that gives it a lot of elegance, especially in the gray color that we had the opportunity to use. It’s much better than plastic, we’re not going to hide it. The rest of its silhouette is distinguished by its sobriety, and this is exactly what is expected of a smartphone with a small budget. One simply regrets that a Touch ID drive has not been integrated, contrary to the Honor 6C to which it is compared recently. An unlock code is a bit has been, right?

After the design, let’s turn to the Honor 6A screen. Featuring a 5-inch HD screen, the smartphone available for purchase since July 12 displays images of honorable quality. Watching videos, reading articles, or viewing social networks is quite pleasant … provided that the brightness is not too strong. When this is the case the legibility is less good, which can prove troublesome especially during this summer period. As for performance, the Honor 6A does the job without being a racing beast for all that. Its Snapdragon 435 processor coupled with 2 GB of RAM makes it possible to open the apps fast enough not to fall asleep in front, but does not allow to run games ultra-greedy. For a smartphone located in this price range, it was not asked anyway not so much. It has a storage capacity of 16 GB, which you can extend via microSD if you take a lot of photos / videos.

Featuring a 13-megapixel rear sensor, the Honor 6A makes honorable photos outdoors, especially when the lighting conditions are optimal. But when the day begins to fall, the clichés are less precise, less clear, and evidently less colorful. Same as the day, a situation that Honor 6A has great difficulty managing. At the front, the Chinese smartphone has a sensor of 5 megapixels that allows to make selfies pretty stylish. Not to mention that a fashion beauty is offered, to be more than ever the King / Queen of Instagram, Snapchat & Co.. You understand, the Honor 6A defends rather well photo level, without yet being at the level of an HTC U11 or a Galaxy S8. But let’s move on to one of the major criteria for young people … Autonomy. Equipped with a 3020 mAh battery, the Honor 6A holds a full day in moderate or even intensive use. But it is advisable to recharge it once night has fallen, otherwise you will not spend the morning of the next day and be in galley if you have not provided external battery. Finally, the big advantage of Honor’s smartphone, the use of Android 7.0 Nougat that gives access to stylish features like the split screen. Associated with the EMUI 5.1 interface, it’s really nice. If you want to shopper the Honor 6A for 169 euros, it’s here. And while waiting to receive it, test your knowledge about it via the quiz that has been concocted to you.
