In India, young people are more likely to join up with a(e) student(e) international(e) in a fake marriage to be able to emigrate in the West. Canada is for them one of the most popular destinations.

In the indian newspapers, the ads bear witness to this phenomenon in full expansion, said Saturday the National Post.

The daily toronto reports an announcement typical débusquée in the journal of india, “Ajit” : “Jatt Sikh, man, 24 years old, 5 feet 10 inches, look for a woman with IELTS (…) (certification in English). True or false marriage. The man’s family pays all the expenses”.

Usually, these announcements promise that the wedding, travel expenses and tuition fees will be paid by the parents determined that their child emigrates.

To marry an international student would thus become the pathway of rapid access to the labour market and to the citizenship of countries such as Canada, which is a preferred destination. In fact, it would be the most accessible country for foreign students. Before tightening its rules, Australia was also a place coveted.

The largest concentration of international students in Canada is located in the Vancouver area. British Columbia is home to 130 000.

In exchange to fund the foreign student, the husband or the wife lives in Canada, can work 40 hours/week, and has other medical insurance. Thus, he or she would be positioned(e) subsequently to become a resident(e) permanent(e).
