OTTAWA-The prime minister Justin Trudeau has expressed his new year greetings on Sunday, highlighting the achievements of his government in 2017, as well as the things that remain to be done.
“This last year, we celebrated the 150th anniversary of Confederation, and we have paid tribute to the remarkable achievements that Canadians have made throughout our history,” said Mr. Trudeau. We are hired to protect our common values, and we have celebrated the diversity that is our strength. […] The 150th anniversary of Confederation also gave us the opportunity to reflect on the moments where Canada has not been at the height of his ideals.”
In this regard, the prime minister noted that “indigenous peoples, like many Canadians, have suffered prejudice and oppression in our history”. “For the new year and the years to come, we must continue to make amends and ensure that everyone has a real chance and equal success.”
In his message, Justin Trudeau has also said that in 2017 the government has “made progress in the reconciliation with aboriginal peoples and has worked to protect “even more community rights, LGBTQ2”. “We have made gender equality a priority in country as well as abroad, in addition to take energetic measures to combat climate change and protect our environment for generations to come.”
He also recalled that his government had launched “the first national Strategy for housing in Canada”, that it has reduced the tax rate on small businesses and has enhanced the Allocation for canada’s children and invested in the learning and care of young children.
“However, we still have a lot of work to do, he pointed out. In 2018, continue to celebrate the values that unite us, such as openness, compassion, equality and inclusion. Let us go forward together, let’s put these values into practice and build a better future for all.
“On behalf of the government of Canada, Sophie and me […] offer you all our best wishes for the year 2018.”
