MONTREAL – The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) warns motorists reckless that it has a particularly close eye on during the long holiday of Labor day.

Until 4 September, police officers from the SQ will intensify their interventions and ask the drivers to adopt responsible behaviour and to plan their trips.

In the course of their interventions, the patrol will pay particular attention to the various violations of the Code of the road, including speed, failure to wear a seat belt, use of cell phones while driving and driving with ability impaired by alcohol or drugs.

The SQ said that these behaviors are among the leading causes of fatal collisions or serious injuries.

Also, “multiple collisions involving motorcyclists have occurred in recent weeks. A reminder of vigilance for motorists and motorcyclists is implementation, especially at the approach of intersections”, stressed the SQ in a press release.

Last year at the same period, two fatal collisions have occurred. This type of operations, deployed during the long vacation, is intended to reduce the number of fatalities on our roads.
