“It continues, obviously. This is harassment, this is harassment, responded to the mayor of Quebec city in a media scrum Saturday, on the sidelines of the inauguration of the centre’s community Garden in the borough of Charlesbourg.
“The Brigades of Love”, a mysterious group that has its own page Facebook, supporting on the social network have printed some 25 000 “Bulletin pink” for distribution in the homes of Quebec.
In this tract of two pages, the group, which says it is against violence and hatred, denounced the “about the intolerant and hate speech disseminated on the website of the CCIQ”.
The leaflets also state that “the CCIQ would have links with the Muslim brotherhood,” an organization linked to terrorism.
“Wind of the extreme right”
“Everyone will say that this is one of the ways isolated. I apologize, there, as a model of behaviour currently, so few people allow it to be,” said Régis Labeaume, making a passing allusion to the president of the United States, “which has trivialized the racism and violence”.
According to the mayor of Quebec city, “a wind of extreme right-breath in Quebec. And “the worst” would be to deny, he insisted.
“I don’t want to exaggerate, as a wind from the far-right that currently exists in Québec. […] Historically, when right-wing movements are born, the reaction of the authorities, it has always been to trivialize […] and each time they did, it didn’t work. So me, I say it should be denounced without stop”, he continued.
“They are cowards, pleutres and cowardly.”
The mayor, who described the people of the far-right “cowardly”, “pleutres” and “cowards” – in reference to the fact that we do not know the identity of the people behind The Brigades of Love – believes that actions must be placed collectively say, “enough is enough”.
He addressed his counterparts and politicians.
“You know, there’s still politicians who speak not too much, because they do not want to lose this customer, he argued. Going to need that to be clear, net and precise, without games the electoral […], it was all the same speech to say : “it is necessary to condemn it”. And it must be done consistently, regularly, systematically,” concluded the mayor.
