GRANBY | A crowd of about fifty people, addiction counselors, social workers, members participated in Friday to Granby, one of the public consultations for the regional on the framing of cannabis in Quebec.

The event which was held at the hotel Castel has led to many discussions, in particular on the themes of prevention, education and treatment of addictions to drugs. “It is essential to listen to the people who come from different backgrounds to attempt to establish a law that will govern the legalization of cannabis in a few months”, explained the minister Lucie Charlebois.

Other themes surrounding such as safety and zoning have been addressed. There are issues that remain a concern for many stakeholders in the addiction. “Cannabis is not a substance risk-free. People are more likely to be tempted to try it, especially young people who are not to be neglected,” says Éliane Trottier Dubois, a participant in a treatment centre for addictions.

Other public consultations are planned in the coming weeks, including Montreal and Gatineau.
