Lorde: Melodrama, a libertarian and obsessive album, our critic

Entertainment 18 June, 2017

Four years after her debut album, Lorde returns with the sublime Melodrama which confirms all the good already thought of her. Criticism of a libertarian and obsessive album.
The exercise of the second album is always a calvary for the artists, especially when one is respected from the first. This is what happened to Lorde in 2013 with Pure Heroine worn by the UFO “Royals” when she was only 16 years old. Powered by the top of the charts in no time at all, the New Zealand singer has put everyone in touch with her very distinct and assertive style: from a young audience to critics who want to be demanding like Pitchfork Kanye West, Lorde is a sort of Adele federator of the new generation anti-cool . Because above all, the one who proposed to be part of his “Team” A few years ago wanted to be the spokesperson of the young people rejected by the cool kids. What happened to the marginal teen after all that? In 2017, Lorde hit hard when returning with the very unexpected “Green Light” . And the sequel promised promise! With his second record Melodrama , Lorde proves that the wait was well worth it. Critical.
After the “Green Light” surprise effect , fans were worried about whether their idol’s album was going to be confusing and different from the first single, or whether the solid foundations Pure Heroine were going to be back. This is the second option that Lorde has chosen: when track 2 “Sober” starts, we understand that the queen of the teen-freaks has lost nothing of its superb. While working on the whole of Melodrama alongside his friend Jack Antonoff (Bleachers), the artist made sure to create a consistent and consistent album, while allowing him to invite some prestigious producers : Flume, Malay (Frank Ocean , Zayn …),
In four years Lorde grew up. The one who refused to have fun during the meaningless festivals finally found a usefulness in these long interminable nights . She now addresses her emotions – always as rich, sincere and fascinating – from the point of view of the young woman she has become. With her incredible songwriting, she tells her life with such accuracy that everyone can find themselves in the dramas of an evening that would have gone wrong because of an ex-or a crush deceptive. The incredible “Liabilty” is undoubtedly the most beautiful expose that Lorde could give us on the disc, and it is not for nothing that it occupies a central place on it. Next to the potential tubes “Sober” , The awesome “Homemade Dynamite” or “Perfect Places” , Lorde offers a collection of songs that catch you guts without warning . It is not for nothing that it is one of the best music releases of the week .
While “Hard Feelings / Loveless” to be the new hymn of youth, Lorde still impresses with the incredible “Sober II (Melodrama)” , dark leaning of part one where it clearly displays its intentions. Obsessed by his destructive emotions, Lorde seems to free himself from a weight with every new breath . True hidden tube of the album, “Supercut” seems to be the explosion necessary before the end of the album where the artist decides to make a good time for any clean slate of the past and to keep only the best. That’s good, because we’re going to keep everything. ” They’ll hang us in the Louvre / Down the back, but who cares-still the Louvre , “
