Folk festival “Midsummer day” is celebrated on 3 February (old style – January 21).

In the Church calendar is the commemoration day of St. Maxim the Greek. Other names of the holiday: “Maxim”, “Maxim-Comforter”, “Maxim the Confessor”, “Maxim the Greek.” St. Maximus lived in the XIII-XIV centuries. He was the son of a wealthy Greek nobleman. After traveling to other countries and study many Sciences and languages has decided to become a monk. When Grand Duke Vasily III desired to understand books and manuscripts of his mother, at his request to Moscow was sent the monk Maxim.
