A medical team from Hadassah university hospital in Jerusalem has conducted a delicate operation. She operated a ” man tree “. The hand of Mohammed Taluli, a resident of the Gaza strip, had been completely colonized by warts.

The intervention worked : the surgeons have removed the lesions, and have achieved autograft of skin to cover the wounds and restore the appearance and the functionality of the hand.

A very rare disease…

The Palestinian, 42-year-old suffers from épidermodysplasie verruciforme, or syndrome (Lutz-Lewandowsky. It is a skin condition extremely rare, which would only affect a few hundred people in the world. They have a particular sensitivity to the hpv and develop warts scaly, especially on the areas of the body exposed to the sun and to the extremities, particularly the hands. As these warts look like bark, and the patients are nicknamed “men-trees.’

No effective treatment has yet been identified, and the only action possible rest the surgery, that simply removing the warts are painful, debilitating and highly stigmatizing.

“The idea was to provide a plan that minimizes the risk of a back injury, explained to the Jewish Press Dr. Shai Luria, one of the surgeons involved in the intervention. It was also important to prepare the ground for the team of dermatologists. “
