Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have spent the New Year on the Côte d’azur. The grandson of the queen’s guard, the trauma of the death of his mother, princess Diana, died in Paris on 31 August 1997 in a car accident.

There are a little over 20 years now, the 31 August 1997, princess Diana was the victim of a terrible car accident under the Alma bridge in Paris. The mother of princes William and Harry, then aged 36 years, was at the Ritz with her boyfriend, Dodi Al Fayed. Both have died in this accident. Among the responsible persons of the drama, the paparazzi, in particular, were singled out. The car that was carrying Lady Di was trying to dodge the photographers on a motorcycle in a crazy race that has found a tragic end in hitting a pylon in the tunnel. Harry was only 13 years old when his mom died.

The tragedy has traumatised the young prince, until today. In a documentary about princess Diana aired this summer on british tv, prince Harry has spoken about the memories that remain from this ordeal so painful. He also complained of the paparazzi. “My mother was suffering from several injuries, but it was still life on the back seat ; and the photographers instead of the rescue have taken pictures…”, let go of the grandson of the queen.

Sunday 31 December 2017, prince Harry and Meghan Markle have spent the New Year on the Côte d’azur. The couple was traveling aboard an airline flight British Airways in economy class. And if the prospect of spending the year-end holiday with his fiancée and a few friends liked it, no doubt the brother of prince William, the trauma of the death of his mother watching closely. The lovebirds are followed by three body-guards, and have benefited from the elite service of protection to ensure their safety on the French territory – a service which was of benefit to the foreign dignitaries. Protection “non-negotiable”, explained the Kensington palace according to the Daily Mail. “After what happened with his mother on the territory, and terrorism-related issues, the protection is a priority for a private trip like this,” says one.
