The Canadian Milos Raonic, finalist of the edition of 2016, qualified Wednesday for the quarter-finals of the Masters 1000 of Indian Wells without playing after the withdrawal of the Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis.

Baghdatis said package shortly before their meeting, scheduled for the end of the day, due to problems of stomach, reported the organizers.

“I woke up a little sick, with stomach problems, I went to train me, but I wasn’t feeling well,” explained the 102nd world, cited in a press release.

In the quarterfinals, Raonic, now 38th in the world, after a season 2017 disrupted by injury, will play against the American Sam Querrey. The two athletes are nose-to-nose in their confrontations so far with a record of 2-2.

Before the abandonment of Baghdatis, Raonic had defeated Felix Auger-Aliassime and Joao Sousa in the second and third rounds, respectively.
