Montreal : celebration of the independence of Greece with a number of political figures

    The Greek community of Montreal celebrated in a grand celebration of the independence of Greece, Sunday.

    The annual parade was opened in the early afternoon at the intersection of Jean-Talon and Hutchison, in the neighbourhood of Parc-Extension, with the minister of Finance, Carlos Leitao, as Grand marshal of the edition 2018.

    “It is a great honour for me to participate in the parade of the Independence of Greece as a Grand Marshal and to support the hellenic Community of Greater Montreal,” wrote Mr Leitao on Twitter.

    Other provincial liberals have also participated in the parade, including Monique Saved, Martin Coiteux and Guy Ouellette. The member of parliament for this district, the ex-liberal Gerry Sklavounos, sitting as an independent following allegations of sexual misconduct, was also present.

    The federal prime minister Justin Trudeau has also moved to attend the event. Of his team, was presented the member Emmanuella Lambropoulos, who was elected in April 2017 in the riding of Saint-Laurent. Come to the parade, the Greek of the last year, Mr. Trudeau had taken advantage of his presence in Montreal to campaign with Ms. Lambropoulos, who was then only a few days of his election.

    The national day of Greece celebrated Sunday is the beginning of the insurrection of the Greeks on the 25th of march 1821 in the face of the ascendancy of the ottoman Empire.
