MONTREAL | The owner of a residential building in Victoria street in the area of Pointe-aux-Trembles, in Montreal, is struggling with a problem size: one of its tenants piled up dozens of cats in her dwelling and the smell of urine that spreads throughout the building and scared away the occupants.

At the beginning of 2016, the delivery man refused to enter wear of the cigarettes and of the goods by the tenant because of the ammonia smell that was foul and unbearable.

The situation was reported to the owner of the building in montreal where the maximum number of animals that one has the right to possess is four. He appealed to the SPCA in September of the same year.

    Wounded and sick

Fifty-four cats, many sick and wounded, as well as a dog, have been taken out of the housing of the man about sixty years.

It has had to issue eight notices of violation under the bylaw. Several of his animals had to be euthanized.

However, the tenant has started to bring cats in her home this year, more and more cats. The stench spreads again and again on the floors, bothering the neighbors of the man.

    Loss of income

The tenants to leave their rent and the owner, Juan Pablo Gonzalez, is unable to find new occupants for their empty slots.

“When I do visit, people tell me that it smells like the kitty. The units stay vacant, and I lose the income,” he lamented in an interview with TVA News.

A tenant does not appreciate either the ambient odor. “It’s like ammonia to power 10. It was less hard this winter, because it was cooler, but there, with the heat, the mouth, the nose, because you can’t even breathe”, she argued.

Unable to resolve the problem, Mr. Gonzalez denounced the long delays at the Régie du logement, which would enable him to evict the tenant offender.
