The police officers of the Sûreté du Québec had seized a total of a little over 35 000 contraband cigarettes in two separate operations on Friday, in the Montérégie region.
In the first case, two people who would be involved in a network of tobacco smuggling have been arrested in the area of Vaudreuil-Dorion. The search carried out by the police then led to the discovery of 130 bags of 200 illegal cigarettes and four bottles of liquor 1.75 liter.
The same day, at Saint-Philippe, police have arrested a motorist whose vehicle contained 51 bags of 200 cigarettes.
All of the suspects arrested in the margin of these two operations could now face charges under the Act relating to the tobacco tax.
