The Great walk of 5 km, organized by the Grand défi Pierre Lavoie and the Fédération des médecins omnipraticiens du Québec (FMOQ) took place on Sunday morning in Montreal. The objective of the event is to encourage citizens to participate in physical activity.
The walk began at 11 a.m. leaving from the place des Festivals in the Quartier des spectacles. Walkers have travelled the centre of the city of Montreal, including the Dorchester Square and the streets of St-Catherine and René-Lévesque before returning in the Quartier des spectacles.
Marc Hervieux has offered a musical performance at 10 a.m. prior to the start of the Great walk.
“What is really particular with this event is that everyone is challenged, whether one is an athlete or those who do not know what activity to practice”, is excited Josée Lavigueur, in an interview with LCN.
Regular physical activity allows you to be in health, and contributes to a physical well-being and mental health.
For Josée Lavigueur, it is the motivation that is the biggest hindrance to the exercise: “we know that We must move and eat well, but it is the motivation that holds us back. For this, it is necessary that there is fun, that is what’s gonna make that we are going to repeat a commitment.”
“You need to put in the municipalities and the schools several choices of physical activities for everyone to try and find what pleases him”, she added.
