Former prime minister Brian Mulroney will testify, Tuesday of next week, before the foreign affairs committee of the u.s. Senate to defend NAFTA, reports the Globe and Mail”.

It is expected that it makes a strong plea in favour of the trade agreement, manhandled by the contradictory statements of president Donald Trump.

At the request of the government Trudeau, Mr. Mulroney, who is also chairman of the board of directors of Quebecor, has been actively involved in the discussions surrounding the agreement.

The sixth round of negotiations for the renewal of the NAFTA is currently underway in Montreal.

According to the “Globe and Mail”, Canada hopes to resolve the issue of the functioning of the tribunal used to resolve disputes in the interpretation of the agreement. Ottawa is apparently ready to make concessions in the face of u.s. demands.
