    OTTAWA | The skating season on the Rideau canal in Ottawa will be officially launched this Friday.

    At 8 a.m., the national capital Commission (NCC), the organization that manages the ice rink, will open a stretch of 5 km of “the largest natural ice rink in the world”, located between the bridge in Pretoria and the rest area of Bronson avenue. The Patterson creek and the area of the lake dows n I w will also be available to skaters.

    At 11 a.m., the member of parliament for Ottawa South, David McGuinty, as well as the chief executive officer of the NCC, Mark Kristmanson, formalize the opening of the 48th season of skating on the Rideau canal.

    The skating rink, the Rideau canal, along its entire length, 7.8 km through the city of Ottawa. It saves on average almost a million visits per year and 20 000 visits per day opening, according to the national capital Commission which manages it since the early 1970s.
