Stay for a few months or a few years, the maternity ward of the commune of Oloron-Sainte-Marie (Pyrenees-Atlantiques) could be saved. In July, on the recommendation of the specialized commission of the organization of care (CSOS), the regional Agency of health (ARS), New Aquitaine had recommended the shutdown of its activities for security reasons.

It justified, in particular his decision by the lack of doctors who are still in the establishment : the only gynaecologist still in office is just months from retirement. But the Collective health, made up of citizens and elected officials who fight for the continuation of health activities in the Haut-Béarn, has announced that the recruitment in progress should enable the maternity to survive.

Recruitment is well advanced

A ” sufficient number of practitioners is going to be found very shortly, and these will be presented to the hospital administration, said Robert Bareille, former deputy mayor of Oloron, and a member of the Collective health. Let’s be clear : to this day, we’re not there yet, but all indicators are green. We will get there ! “

The LRA had announced that, in the absence of doctors, the maternity ward would be closing its doors at the end of December. “The top goal is to find 5 gynecologists-obstetricians and 5 paediatricians, had estimated Hervé Lucbéreilh, mayor of Oloron, joined by Pourquoidocteur in July. I think that by finding 3 of each, we would all already relieved. ”
