After two years of work, a brick building of 4300 m2 and has emerged within the Cochin hospital (Paris). This is the new OphtalmoPôle of the APHP, a project grouping of eye care services in paris. The activities of the Hôtel-Dieu (emergencies and consultations), Necker (advice for adults), and the surgical department of the hospital Lariboisière there will be gathered.

The first patient, received on the 30th of June, were able to discover the peculiarities of this center point. In particular, the presence of two operating theatres of the most original : they have been designed to accommodate three patients at a time, in open space.

Optimize the waiting time

A choice made to speed up the interventions. “Today, the time of installation and preparation of patients for operations of the cataract are often longer than the surgical procedure itself, explains the APHP. The organization in halls operating makes it possible to prepare a patient on a site, while the surgeon operates on a site contiguous. It facilitates the establishment of a circuit of the patients to the block and contributes to the optimization of the medical organization. “.

For that conditions of hygiene are observed, the air is filtered in the halls, and of streams of air projected between the operating tables to prevent any contamination, by acting as curtains sterile.
On the side of patients, not of complaint. It was one of the fears of doctors, but the twelve patients already operated on have not reported any discomfort.

Another originality : for patients who are not hospitalized, a “lounge” area has been created. Between the waiting room and relaxing place, it has been designed to make their wait more comfortable.
