Police officers and special constables intend to comply with the law by putting their pants camouflage.
They provide, however, challenge the draft law on the wearing of the uniform, they see it as an infringement of their rights and freedoms.
“Very disappointing “
“It’s very disappointing, it is deeply regretted that this draft law will then be passed to the national Assembly “, launched from the outset, Frank Perales, president of the Union of the special constables of the government of Quebec.
“We come squarely to create a class of employees in the company, which will have practically no rights in respect of labour relations,” he said.
The Fraternité des policiers et policières de Montréal says it will challenge the constitutionality of the bill 133.
“This bill affects a constitutional right by preventing a means of expression and pressure that are not detrimental to the services to the population,” responded the Fraternity by e-mail, recalling that the police do not have the right to strike.
Slap in the face
Francis Boies, president of the Brotherhood of police officers of the Régie intermunicipale De Therese-De Blainville, compares the new to a ” slap in the face “.
“For us, [the pants of a clown] were a way of saying to the population that it was not going well in our work contracts,” he said. Now, I will have to find other ways, but this is not obvious. “
“We’re the police, then we will respect the law,” he adds. But it will not resolve our labour relations. “
Same reaction on the part of Claude Traversy, president of the Association des policiers de Saint-Jérôme Métropolitain.
“We’re going to comply with the law, but we will challenge it, that’s for sure “, says he.
