A group of American researchers found that by the end of the century large coastal cities worldwide will likely be inundated because of sea level rise more than two feet. Article scientists published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, reports Rus.Media.

Experts analyzed satellite data obtained over 25 years to build climate models that predict a rise in sea level. It turned out that since 1993, the rise of the ocean water accelerates in additional 0,084 mm per year. Given that average growth over this period at 2.9 millimeters per year in the period from 2005 to 2100, the oceans will rise by 65 centimeters.

Climate models predict that sea level rise will be constant, envisage growth at 30 centimeters over the same period. In the new study, the researchers assessed the increase in ocean heat quantity of melting ice and the effect of volcanoes.

The cause of the floods that hit the coasts of South Florida, Bangladesh, Shanghai and parts of Washington experts call catastrophic melting of ice in Greenland and Antarctica due to global warming.
