The government Couillard has awarded a $ million to the City of Longueuil to help rebuild the bridge of the Normandy, destroyed by the tipper of a truck in the winter of 2015.

This bridge, which overlooks the road 132, allows to reach the shores of the St. Lawrence river from the city. It is also linked to the cycle network that runs along the river from east to west.

“The government of Quebec has, for example, support our efforts to make Longueuil a living environment that fosters the promotion of healthy life habits, in particular as regards the movement”, welcomed the mayor of Longueuil, Sylvie Parent, by press release on Tuesday.

The reconstruction of this gateway has had its share of unforeseen events since the launch of the project. Valued initially at $ 8.8 million, the cost of realization of the gateway is now estimated to be at least $ 12.8 million. The inauguration of the bridge has also been postponed a few times, its opening is now scheduled for the summer of 2018.

Despite the cost overruns and delays, Longueuil promises that the structure will quickly become “an emblem distinctive architectural that will reflect the dynamism and modernity of the city.
