Fifty years after its opening, the government of Quebec has officially recognized Monday, the Montreal universal Exhibition, or Expo 67, as a “historic event”.

“This great event has not only enabled the world to discover the modern Quebec, but has also allowed the Quebec and to Quebecers to renew their own vision on the world”, explained the minister of Culture, Marie Montpetit, by issuing a press release.

The cultural heritage Act allows the minister of Culture and Communications to designate the characters, events and historic places.

This recognition will enable to Expo 67 to retain its “place in the collective memory,” said the government Couillard.

Some 50 million visitors attended the event, Terre des Hommes, which took place from April 27 to October 29, 1967, in Montreal. The exhibition presented the flags and cultures of 62 countries.
