NASA researchers analyzed data collected by the Orbiting carbon Observatory, and stated that the rapid increase in carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is to blame the tropical regions of the Earth, reported on the Agency’s website, reports Rus.Media.

In the study, researchers analyzed data collected by the Orbiting carbon Observatory for 28 months. The researchers tried to understand whether this situation is a consequence of the El niño 2015-2016.

It appeared that the active phase of the El niño led to temperature increase in Equatorial areas. In South America and Asia this has led to the driest over the past 30 years of weather that was the cause of a large number of forest fires. In Africa, rainfall is almost not decreased, but the temperature rise is still accelerated the process of decomposition of dead trees and plants, which increased emissions of carbon dioxide.

It should be noted that emissions of carbon dioxide due to anthropogenic factors has remained at the same level.
