    SAINTE-PERPÉTUE – The 40th edition of the Festival du cochon of Sainte-Perpétue to be held under surveillance this year.

    This festival on the theme of the pig, is particularly important in Sainte-Perpétue, since during the festivities, they are 35 000 fans on average who arrive in this town of 1000 inhabitants.

    During the four days of the Festival, this week, we will be able to see the Grégory Charles, Les Cowboys Fringants, but also the famous racing pigs greased.

    “The 40th, it arouses the curiosity of the people, because there was not as much in Quebec as well as festivals that last for 40 years,” explains Michel Jutras, the director general of the Festival of the pig.

    Controversy

    This 40th edition does not escape yet not in the controversy, because of the races of pigs greased of concern to the associations for the defence of animals.

    The Festival of Saint-Tite, there had been a legal battle challenging the rodeos.

    In Sainte-Perpétue, the ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food will be present before, during and after the races, to fill out a report about the well-being of the pigs.

    Without races, the future of the Festival of the pig could be called into question.
