Scientists have made a surprising discovery in the Earth’s mantle

Geologists have discovered the source of carbon dioxide and water in the earth’s mantle, reports Rus.Media. The work was published in the scientific journal Geology.

After analyzing the composition of the metamorphic rocks found in the Himalayas, scientists from the U.S. and India came to the conclusion that in the upper layers of the mantle contain hydrogen and liquid hydrocarbons that in the future, may form carbon dioxide and water.

Note that during the study, geologists were able to locate the diamonds, the exact origin of which in the rocks of ophiolite unknown.
