The violent accident that claimed the life of a member of Transport Quebec, on Friday night in Montreal, raise once more the question of the safety of workers on roadwork in the province.

The data from the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec show that the offences culpable for non-observance of the security corridor are in sharp decline since the introduction of the regulation in August 2012.

In fact, while they were at the number of 3712 in 2013, the offences of the guilty are passed to 2705 in 2014, and then to 1984 in 2015, finally reaching 1498 in 2016.

Despite the fact that these data could imply that the behaviour of drivers changes, and that the latter show greater respect for the security corridor, the sound of a bell on the ground is different in the signallers and operators of tow.

“They are a little bit wild. They don’t listen to what they say and they don’t care not bad. I was almost to get into it several times already, said a signaleuse, Roxane Boulay, VAT New. It is there as decoration.”

The man who is the cause of the accident at the rond-point Dorval, on Friday, appeared Monday at the palais de justice of Montreal. Vincent Lemay, the 38-year-old has been released pending the result of the procedures.
