SHERBROOKE – The police believe they have put an end to a wave of break-ins and thefts that hit Sherbrooke for several months already, with the arrest of 29 suspects, including some alleged to have committed dozens of crimes alone.

The survey project “Slamming” began in October and was intended to counter the plague that was raging in Sherbrooke and that targeted businesses and homes.

In total, the police arrested 29 suspects, which would be the origin of more than 157 folders of break and enters in homes, sheds, shops and construction sites the same as theft of vehicles, shoplifting, receiving stolen property, robbery and a few folders of fraud.

According to the authorities, the value of the property stolen amounts to several tens of thousands of dollars.

One of the main suspects arrested in the context of this major operation is Claude Paul Pinel, aged 52 years. He was arrested on 21 February in Granby, following several flights. It would have alone committed fifty crimes in the vicinity of Sherbrooke in the last few months.

According to police, the 29 suspects pinned does not form a criminal network, but worked rather independently.
