Montrealers are not the only ones to have experienced a massive spill of waste water… The emerald waters of Niagara Falls, in the State of New York, have taken a reddish hue and worrying at the end of the week, due to an event of the same kind.
A huge black spot was formed at the foot of Niagara falls. The wastewater was discharged on Saturday on a period of ten hours.
Tourists who were on top of the water at the same time have been witnesses of the phenomenon, reported Global News. They were first hand, and smell the stench that had emerged from the water blackish.
Several residents of Niagara Falls are said to be shocked the way things have been done, and would have liked to be informed beforehand.
For its part, the municipality has defended itself by saying that the spill was part of an operation of the routine cleaning of its water treatment plant. Its representatives have stated that all this would have been done respecting the limits.
The water has since resumed its normal colors.
As of Monday, the governor of the State of New York, Andrew M. Cuomo, has ordered an investigation. “Any violation of the standards of quality of water of the State is a serious problem, and I ordered that an investigation be conducted into the reasons why this event happened and to ensure that measures are taken so that it does not happen again,” said governor Cuomo in a press release.
