Seventeen people were arrested Wednesday in Spain during a police operation inside the Hells Angels motorcycle club, in the investigations of murder and drug trafficking, authorities said.

The arrests took place in particular in Barcelona, the nearby town of Sabadell and in other cities of Catalonia (north-east), where a series of searches have taken place in the early morning, indicated the Mossos d’esquadra, the regional police of catalonia.

“Many of the people arrested are involved in a murder in 2017 in Sabadell and also for trafficking drugs”, told AFP a spokesman for the Mossos d’esquadra, without providing further details.

According to the daily barcelona’s La Vanguardia, the man killed belonged to a motorcycle gang rival of the Hells Angels. Beaten with blows of a baseball bat in September 2017, he had succumbed to his injuries three months later.

Contacted by AFP, the “chapter” Spanish Hells Angels has not reacted officially.

Known for their Harley-Davidson and their uniforms of leather, the Hells Angels have been based in the United States in 1948 and are branches, or “chapters,” in 56 countries.
