Less than two weeks of the arrival of spring, winter has not said its last word, while a winter storm will hit several regions of Quebec as soon as Wednesday evening.
Quebec and the east of the province are going to receive accumulations of up to 35 centimeters from Wednesday to Saturday.
It was Charlevoix who should taste the most, with 35 centimetres of snow that are predicted. The areas to the north of the Saguenay, Baie-Comeau, Sept-Îles and the North Shore should also receive a thirty centimetres of snow by Saturday.
“In Quebec, we speak more than 12 to 15 inches, but in the end, I think it will be more than 15 to 20 centimeters, divided equally on three days,” said Steve Boily, meteorologist at Environment Canada.
Strong winds
The strong winds, which could reach 80 km/h in some places, will also complicate travel. The roads located near flat surfaces will be particularly treacherous and the visibility could be reduced.
“Wednesday night, we should have good winds that will develop. There is a risk of blowing snow. The longer the evening goes along, the more it will be difficult. It will be reckless to embark on the road to Quebec,” says Boily.
More specifically, for the capital, the storm is expected to begin in the late afternoon on Wednesday. It is expected to continue until Saturday. Eastern Quebec will be hit as early as Thursday afternoon, until Saturday.
Small consolation for those who are exhausted by the winter and the snow: the mercury will be a little higher than the normal.
The thermometer will oscillate between -1 degree and 2 degrees on the day, and between -4 and -6 degrees during the night.
In Quebec city, on Saturday, the precipitation of snow can turn into rain, since the set temperature is 2 degrees.
